As the first microinsurance provider in Cambodia, PKMI (Prévoir Kampuchea Micro Life Insurance Plc) has expanded into all 25 provinces to help middle- to low-income individuals and businesses mitigate the high cost of health care in the event of an emergency. Established in 2011, PKMI, a subsidiary of the French-owned company Prévoir Group created in France in 1910, provides affordable health, life and personal accident insurance.

Industry leaders in sectors ranging from banking to agriculture give their predictions for the coming year

Cambodia’s insurance industry is slowly emerging, from a single pioneering provider – the state-owned Cambodian National Insurance Company – opening up in 1990 to 11 firms today. Companies now offer a broader range of products, including micro-insurnace options. In mid-2012, Prévoir Kampuchea Micro-Life Insurance (PKMI), a subsidiary of French health and life insurance firm Prévoir, began offering life insurance services with a coverage limit of $5,000 to rural customers.

This week, Post reporter Hor Kimsay spoke with Solène Favre, CEO of PKMI, about how the nascent Cambodian insurance market is evolving.

Chamroeun Microfinance Limited and Prevoir Kampuchea Micro Life Insurance PLC (PKMI) on Wednesday joined efforts to provide insurance to those on lower incomes.

The partnership will provide health insurance to its clients at about $0.51 per month for adults and $0.26 per month for those aged between five and 17, said Suon Sophea, the CEO of Chamroeun, at a ceremony at the company’s head office.
